Flood Floating Green Houses
This is a shorter version of my post in www.pinoygreenacademy about flood floating houses.
Here are some photos I saw over the Daily Green and Go-Green website. They are of houses that are designed to float over floodwaters, in case such disasters happen again. If we in the Philippines have Ondoy and Pepeng, the U.S. has Katrina to be thankful for in introducing them to Climate Change’s woes.

I also wrote in that post of Brad Pitt’s initiative to help the calamity victims of Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans and his efforts to help everyone more prepared for the next one.
Brad Pitt started by working with Global Green to sponsor an architecture competition aimed at generating ideas about how to rebuild sustainably. Pitt worked with local community leaders as well as experts from around the world to develop viable ideas for the Lower 9th Ward. That successful project inspired Pitt’s new focus: Make It Right.
The Mission of Make It Right is clear: it is to be a catalyst for redevelopment of the Lower 9th Ward, by building a neighborhood comprised of safe and healthy homes that are inspired by Cradle to Cradle thinking, with an emphasis on a high quality of design, while preserving the spirit of the community’s culture. The goal is to accomplish this quickly, so that the first residents can begin returning to their homes as soon as possible.
We posted this to share what the others were able to accomplish. We, Filipinos, can do this as well. The proud Pinoy in us, would even say, we could even do it better. Having raised the challenge, together with Pinoy Green Academy, I will be supportive of such causes and undertakings. I know of two “green” design competitions for Filipino Architects.
1.) Pinakamagandang Bahay sa Balat ng Lupa
2.) The Designer Village Challenge of Mr.Illac Diaz

There have to be some approach to stop these natural disastor from happening…we should think ahead of each risk, at least we should always do what we needs to be doing…
